Beberapa Definisi Supply Chain

Sejarah perkembangan definisi Supply Chain sejak tahun 1980-2010 sebagai berikut.

Oliver dan Weber (1982) mencetuskan istilah Supply Chain Management (SCM) pertama kali. SC adalah jaringan perusahaan-perusahaan yang secara bersama-sama bekerjasama untuk menciptakan dan menghantarkan suatu produk ke tangan pemakai akhir. Sedangkan SCM adalah metode, alat, atau pendekatan pengelolaannya.

Selanjutnya Lambert, Cooper, dan Pagh (1998) menyatakan “Supply Chain Management is the most teorithical and empirical investigation comencing in 1997”

Croom et al. (2000), menyajikan petunjuk yang yang sangat baik tentang Supply Chain Management. In the same breath academics admit their inadequacy in providing suitable guidance via empirical studies, construct development, and theory building in academic publications.

Menurut Gunasekaran et al., (2001), beberapa peneliti berargumentasi bahwa kita sekarang berada dalam suatu era baru dimana firm performance and competitive advantage will be linked to supply performance.

Mentzer et al (2001) mendifinisikan SC is a sets of three or more entities (organization or individuals) directly involved in the upstream and downstream flows of products, services, finances, and/or information from a source to a customer. SCM is systematic strategic coordination of the traditional business functions within a particular company and across businesses within a supply chain, for the purpose of improving the longterm performance of the individual companies and the supply chain as a whole.

Giunipero et al., (2008) menyatakan bahwa ada 5 variabel Supply Chain Management, yaitu : (1) Integration Behavior, (2) Share information, risk, and reward, (3) Cooperate on activities performed, (4) Active participation, dan (5) Longterm relationship.
